What happens after the walk round
The check itself costs you nothing for homes in our local area. What you do with it is up to you. I will tell you straight what needs doing and what does not, and if your locks are already sound I will say so. Where something genuinely needs sorting, I will explain why and quote it up front before any work starts. Common jobs that come out of an assessment are an anti-snap TS007 3-star cylinder upgrade from £150 on a vulnerable uPVC door, a mortice lock fit or replace from £130 where the insurance standard is not met, or a window lock repair or replace from £80. Nothing is pushed on you.
The things I look at most closely
Most homes have one or two weak spots that make the rest of the security beside the point. On the Waterside I see the same problems again and again, and they are usually cheap to put right once you know they are there.
- Old snappable euro cylinders on uPVC and composite doors, the number one way an opportunist gets in
- Multipoint mechanisms that are stiff or dropping, which people ignore until the door will not lock at all
- Back doors and side gates left on weaker locks than the front
- Key safes fitted in plain sight or of a type that will not hold up, when a Sold Secure police-approved one from £150 does the job properly
- Where the spare keys actually live, which matters more than people think
