Honest locksmith prices, told to you up front

An emergency locksmith with Keywise starts from £80, and there is no call-out fee. I am not the cheapest locksmith you will see advertised, and I want to explain why that is a good thing for you. The price I give you is the price you pay. I agree it with you before I touch the door, there is no call-out fee, no VAT added on, and if I cannot fix it you do not pay a penny. Day or night, the price is the same.

Every price here is the full price before any discount, and an honest starting point that can vary with the lock type, the job and any parts needed. A lock change price is for the first lock. The discounts further down are real and come straight off this price, never off some inflated figure. You will always get the final price, discount included, before any work begins. Card or cash accepted.

About those £39 call-outs

You will see locksmiths advertised at £39, or some other price that looks too good to turn down. Here is how that one usually works. The cheap headline price is bait to get a van to your door. The real bill only turns up once you are already locked out and waiting, and by then it is a long way past £39. I have been called out to put right the mess after it more times than I would like. I would rather give you a fair price now and stand by it than reel you in with a number I never meant to charge.

Yes, you might find a lower number somewhere. What you pay a little more for with me is simple. A price that does not change on you once I am at the door. A real guarantee behind the work. And a locksmith you can hold to account, because my name and my reviews are on every job. Most people would rather pay a fair price once than a cheap price that turns into a big one.

If you want to know what to actually look for when you are searching at 2am, and how to spot the ones to avoid, I wrote about it here: Locksmith near me, at 2am: what you actually want to find.

What changes the price?

Honest answer: a few things, and I would rather explain them than pretend every job is the same. The main ones are the type of lock, whether the door has been damaged, and the parts your door actually needs. A straightforward lock-out is at the lower end. A snapped multipoint mechanism on a uPVC door, or fitting a 3-star anti-snap cylinder, costs more because the parts cost more.

What does not change the price with me: the time of day. There is no inflated 3am rate and no call-out fee. You get the same honest quote whether you call at midday or midnight, and you get it before I touch the door.

Discounts I am glad to give

Two standing discounts, no need to ask twice. They are real, and they come straight off the prices you see above, agreed with you up front before any work begins:

  • Crime awareness group members, 10% off the work. If you are part of one of our local crime awareness Facebook groups, that comes off the bill.
  • Older customers, 20% off. A fair bit off for our older neighbours, because it is the right thing to do.

And if money is tight

Some people reach me at a hard moment. A charity watching every penny. Someone who has just had a break-in and needs to feel safe in their own home that night. Someone changing the locks after a bad situation at home. A carer. Anyone who is genuinely vulnerable, or just struggling to find the money. If that is you, please just talk to me. Tell me where you stand, no long explanation needed, and I will sort a goodwill discount.

Nobody should be left unsafe over money. That is not how I was raised and it is not how I run Keywise. These discounts are there so a fair price is never out of reach, and so you are never stuck choosing between your safety and what is in your pocket.

Why you can trust the price

I hold a 5.0 rating from more than 288 Google reviews. When people write about me, the thing they mention again and again is fair, honest pricing, the price I quoted was the price I charged, no surprises at the end. That is the proof, in their words and not mine.

I have run Keywise on my own here on the Waterside since 2013, I am DBS checked and fully insured, and in 2024 I was the Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner’s Community Volunteer of the Year. If you want to know whether the price holds up, read the reviews.

Our promise on price

  • No call-out fee, ever. You only pay for the work done.
  • The price before I start. I agree the cost with you up front, in plain terms.
  • No fix, no fee. If I cannot open the door without damage and you decide not to go ahead, you do not pay.
  • A real guarantee. Every part I fit is covered for 12 months, and I stand behind the work. If something I have done is not right, I come back and put it right, no quibble.
  • Card or cash. Pay however suits you, no “cash only” pressure.
  • Fully insured & DBS checked. A safe, accountable pair of hands in your home.

Locksmith cost questions

How much does an emergency locksmith cost?
With Keywise an emergency lock-out starts from £80, with no call-out fee. The final price depends on the lock and whether the door is damaged, but you’ll always be quoted before any work begins, and the price is the same day or night.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
No. I never charge a call-out fee. You only pay for the work done, quoted up front. If I cannot open the door without damage and you decide not to proceed, you do not pay.
Why might the price be higher than the “from” figure?
The starting prices cover a straightforward job. The cost goes up when the door needs new parts, such as a multipoint mechanism for a uPVC door, or when you upgrade to a 3-star anti-snap cylinder. I will explain exactly why before you agree to anything.
Do you guarantee your work and parts?
Yes. Every part I fit is guaranteed for 12 months, and I stand behind the work. I am fully insured and DBS checked.
Can I pay by card or is it cash only?
Both. I take card or cash, whichever suits you. There is no “cash only” pressure and no surcharge for paying by card.
Are you really available 24 hours?
Yes, genuinely. I answer my own mobile day and night, weekends and bank holidays, with a loud alarm so a 3am lock-out reaches me, not an answerphone. Most SO45 and Southampton call-outs are reached within 30 minutes.
